Wales Rally GB has started in earnest after last night’s superspecial stage in Cardiff. The weather is wet and windy after gale force winds hit much of the UK last night.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the action and updating you on the latest rally news on our blog with regular twitter updates at @ITVJayneL.

Friday 12 November:

16:01: What a day – a tight one for the frontrunners in this year’s Wales Rally GB but it’s the Citroen C4 of World Champion Sébastien Loeb that leads the event.

Loeb took the lead when visibility problems caused by misted-up windows on his Ford Focus resulted in Jari Matti Latvala leaving the road and suffering a puncture that has dropped him back to 6th place.

15:26: Latvala has dropped several places after leaving the road and suffering a puncture seeing last Loeb move into first place closely followed by P. Solberg in second.

RT @WalesRallyGB After SS7: 1. Loeb 1:15:34.6, 2. P Solberg +1.8, 3. Ogier +3.6, 4. Hirvonen +42.2, 5. Sordo +48.9, 6. Latvala (puncture)

14:56: RT @WalesRallyGB After SS6: 1. Latvala 1:00:13.6, 2. Loeb +4.5, 3. P Solberg +5.8, 4. Ogier +6.6, 5. Hirvonen +36.7

14:46: An excellent performance by Loeb at Sweet lamb has seen him move into the number two spot overall behind Latvala.

With Ogier moving into fourth place – what does this mean for the race for second in the drivers championship?

15:29: A puncture during SS7 sees Latvala slip down to sixth with Loeb leading overall and Petter Solberg in second.

14:29: Ogier posts the fastest time at Hafren 2 but remains third as Latvala holds on to the overall lead at SS5. There’s very little between the race leaders with second place Solberg hoping to overtake the Ford driver.

13:34: And they’re off again @WalesRallyGB Loeb has started SS5 Hafren…

12:17: The lead has been changing hands all morning – as the drivers head to the midday service in Builth Wells Ford’s Latvala is in front – but who will be in the lead this afternoon?

Further down the field Welsh drivers Tom Cave and Jason Pritchard are both putting in solid performances.

Nineteen-year-old Cave from Aberdovey put in a strong early performance in his Proton Satria, working his way into the top 30 after stage 2.

Pritchard from Builth Wells is hard on his heels despite clipping a wheel on a rock in the notorious watersplash on the Sweet Lamb stage
