Privatisation plans for Department for Transport staff in Swansea

The government is planning to privatise the Shared Services Centre in Swansea.

The 275 staff at the centre are currently employed by the DVLA to provide back-office support for the Department of Transport. Back-office roles include payroll and HR services.

Secretary of State for Transport, Phillip Hammond says a  privatised SSC would be one of small number handling government back-office work.

Staff that transfer to the new private contractor would, according to a Department spokeswoman, have their conditions protected under the TUPE process.

More to follow.
