Man convicted of Karen Skipper murder to face retrial after appeal ruling

A man convicted of a killing a woman out walking her dogs in Cardiff 14 years ago has had his conviction quashed on appeal.

Karen Skipper was found murdered near the Ely river in Cardiff in 1996

John Pope, 62, was convicted last year of killing 34-year-old Karen Skipper, whose body was found in a field in Riverside in March 1996.

Initially her former husband was tried for the murder but acquitted.
Mr Pope will now face a retrial and has been remanded in custody.

Details of the successful appeal cannot be published as it would be prejudicial for the retrial.

Lord Justice Thomas told Cardiff Crown Court Mr. Pope will face a retrial next year.
