Train workers to go on strike

Train cleaners, trains, strike, cleaners

Train cleaners are due to go on strike for 24-hours on Friday 25 February

Workers who clean trains are to stage a 24-hour strike in a row over pay and pensions.

The Rail Maritime and Transport union said its members employed by contract firm Mitie who service First Great Western trains out of Cardiff and Swansea will take action from 6am on Friday.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “As a result of wage discrepancies, which have proved to be a serious issue for some of our members who have been short-changed by hundreds of pounds, a dispute exists between Mitie and RMT and following a 100% vote for action, our members will strike for 24 hours.

“This appalling situation shines the spotlight on just how these facilities companies operate and how they treat their low-paid staff.”
