Teenager killed in car crash in Aberdare

A teenager has died after a road crash this morning in Aberdare.

South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident on Cwmbach Road.

Officers say a grey Volkswagen Polo and a white Ford Transit van collided near the magistrates’ court at around 7am.

The 19-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen, from Aberdare, and the 37-year-old male driver of the van, from Abercynon, were both taken by ambulance to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.

A spokeswoman said: “The 19-year-old male has since passed away. Next of kin have been informed.

“The 37-year-old male was treated for minor injuries.”

Cwmbach Road was closed from outside the court up to the junction of Canal Road, until 11.50am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or those who have not contacted them yet, to call the roads policing unit on 02920 633438 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
