Newport man charge with murder to appear at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court

A 27-year-old has been charged with murder following the death of a man who was found with severe burns on a hotel forecourt.

The defendant, who is from Newport, is due to appear at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Gwent Police say the victim, believed to be in his 30s, had been assaulted before he was discovered in front of the Gateway Express hotel in Chepstow Road, Newport, late last Wednesday.

Officers, who had previously issued pictures of the dead man’s tattoos in a bid to identify him, say they now know who he is but have not released his name.

He died in a burns unit at Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
