Simon Weston criticises military redundancies

Welsh Falklands veteran Simon Weston has criticised job cuts to the armed forces.

Simon Weston has criticised the latest military redundancies announcement

Yesterday Commodore Jonathan Woodcock, head of pay and manning, said the British army would lose 1,000 personnel and the navy 1,600 in the first of four rounds of redundancies to meet cuts outlined in a defence review in October.

The Royal Air Force (RAF) announced plans to lay-off 2,700 staff last month in a similar staggered programme of cuts.

Weston said that while military staff were aware that some cuts would have to be made losing large numbers of experienced soldiers while engaged in conflict in Afghanistan and Libya would be incredibly damaging.
