A Rhondda teenager has scored the ultimate goal after being signed by his favourite football team.
Talented footballer Declan Dalley, 16, has supported Manchester United his entire life, along with the rest of his family – including his late father, Michael.
He will now take to the pitch himself wearing the famous red jersey after a series of impressive trials led to him signing on the dotted line.
The teen has received congratulations and support from those who know him in the Rhondda, including his former headteacher.
Rhian Ellis, head of Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda, said: “As a school we could not be prouder of all of Declan’s considerable achievements, including this latest fantastic opportunity he has secured.
“Declan’s success is testament to his drive, dedication and determination to be the best he can be. He is an exceptional role model to all our pupils and youngsters everywhere, and we will continue to support this talented and humble young man – on and off the football pitch.”
Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “This is very exciting news and many congratulations to Declan on such an outstanding achievement.
“To play for one of the most well-known football clubs in the world is a wonderful opportunity for Declan and is an honour not only for his family, school and community, but the whole of the County Borough.
“We are very proud of him and look forward to seeing his career progress as he wears the red jersey with pride.”
