Reservoir crash victims named

The Pontypridd family members involved in the reservoir crash near Llanidloes have been formally identified.

Denise Griffith, 55, managed to swim to safety and is the only survivor. Her 66-year-old husband Emyr Griffith, 84-year-old mother Phyllis Eira Hooper, known as Eira, and their two teenage foster children, Peter Briscombe and Liam Govier, perished in the accident.

Dyfed Powys Police officers are continuing to investigate after the family’s car plunged into the Llyn Clywedog reservoir yesterday afternoon following a collision with another vehicle on the B4518.

The family was on holiday at the time.

A local man, 23, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on police bail.

Dyfed Powys Police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
