South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal accident on the M4 early this morning.
The collision occurred at around 7:25pm on the westbound carriageway between junction 35 Pencoed and junction 36 Sarn, Bridgend.
Three vehicles were involved – a white Fiat camper van, a red and grey Volvo articulated tanker vehicle and a white, green and red Isuzu recovery vehicle.
As a result of the collision, a 38-year-old man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A police family liaison officer has been appointed and is supporting his next of kin, and the coroner has been informed.
The driver of the tanker vehicle is currently receiving treatment at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. The driver and passenger of the camper van were uninjured.
The road was busy at the time and South Wales Police wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident. They are also keen to speak to anybody who stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen the vehicles being driven prior to the collision and who have not yet given their details.
The road was closed for approximately five hours while police carried out a forensic collision investigation, initial investigations and recovered the vehicles.
