South Wales Police confirm ‘small number of isolated incidents’ overnight in Cardiff

Police have confirmed no incidents of serious disorder broke out in Wales last night.

South Wales Police attended a ‘small number of isolated incidents’ in the Cardiff area last night but say there are currently no ongoing issues.

Small fires reported at two disused buildings in the Butetown and Canton areas were extinguished by the fire service.

There were also reports of an attempted burglary at the JD Sports store in Cardiff Bay and criminal damage to a takeaway shop in Cowbridge Road West.

No members of the public or emergency service staff were injured.

Investigations are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Chief Superintendent Josh Jones of South Wales Police said: “These incidents are being treated as isolated, which have caused relatively minor damage to property.

“There have been no reports of any similar incidents across the force area. Extra officers are on patrol to ensure the communities of South Wales remain safe.

“Monitoring of social networking sites has continued, and despite some efforts to generate disorder in our communities these have failed. Anyone who is found to incite criminal activity will be traced and dealt with by the police.

“We work closely with our communities and our partners and we would like to thank them for their continued support.”
