Line-up for Michael Jackson tribute concert in Cardiff announced

Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Smokey Robinson will all sing in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on 8 October as a tribute to the King of Pop — Michael Jackson.

The line up to this one-off tribute concert also includes Cee Lo Green,  Leona Lewis, JLS, Alien Ant Farm and Craig David – with other acts expected to be announced.

Chris Hunt, President of Global Live Events said: “We’re delighted that such exciting and globally recognised acts have joined the line-up to pay tribute to a music legend.

“This is going to be a spectacular event, and one not to be missed! I’m also pleased to say that we’ll be adding more amazing headliners in the days to come.”

The concert is supported by Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother. Writing on Global Live Events website she says:

“I will be there along with as many members of my family that are available. I am positive that this event will be an event great enough in scale, talent and imagination to form a worthy celebration of Michael’s life.

“It is intended to be the biggest, and the best concert event in the world for many years to come. This is how Michael would have wanted it and I am sure it will be exactly that.”

But recently, Jermaine and Randy Jackson — Michael’s brothers — criticised the timing of the concert because it coincides with the start of a trial charging Michael’s former doctor with manslaughter in the 2009 death of the singer.

The timing of the tribute concert is not the only controversy. The announcement of the line-up had been expected last week, with the delay by Global Live Events prompting considerable criticism.

The ticketing system also has riled some fans, as yourcardiff reported.

Tickets for the concert are expected to go up for “registration” soon. The ticketing system allows people to register their interest in the concert, rewarding those who pledge the most to charity with the best seats. After four days, tickets will be offered to those successful. Details are explained on the event website.

  1. This Tribute concert started off on the wrong foot with a very convoluted ticket pricing. This is another Tribute that’s taking a shot at capitalizing on Michael Jackson’ s death without any shame. The trial is still going on, and as a diehard fan I’d say Justice before profits.
