Three women injured in shooting at Malpas Road Hairdressers, Newport

Three women are receiving treatment in hospital after being shot during a firearms incident at a hairdressers in Newport this afternoon.Officers are seeking a male suspect who is no longer armed.

A spokesperson for Gwent police said they received a call at approximately 2.20pm today reporting that three people had received injuries at a hairdressers on Malpas Road.

They said: “A male had entered the premises with a firearm. Officers have recovered a firearm from the premises.

“A female received a gun shot wound to the knee. Another female has an injury to the neck and another female an injury to the arm. At this time the nature of these injuries has not been confirmed.”

None of the injuries are said to be life threatening.

All three women are receiving medical treatment and are currently with police officers.

The hairdressers where the incident happened is believed to be Carol Ann Hair Stylists.

Officers are currently searching for the male involved and enquiries are on going. Officers are working on the investigation and are also at the scene.

  • UPDATE: 18:34 Police searching for the man involved in the incident say he is believed to be driving a grey Mini Cooper, registration OE55 CVB. If anyone sees this vehicle they are urged not to approach it but to instead call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
