ITV Wales’ coverage of the Wales v South Africa Rugby World Cup match on Sunday attracted a peak audience share of 72% (535,000 viewers) with an average audience share of 58% (405,000 viewers).
“These impressive figures reflect the huge level of support for the national team in the Rugby World Cup,” said ITV Wales executive producer Jonathan Hill.
“It’s good to know that in a multi-channel world the nation was watching the game with ITV.”
He added: “ITV Wales is delighted to be continuing its live coverage of all of Wales’ Pool D games over the coming weeks – and hopefully see Wales progress in the tournament.”
For Wales’ vital match against Samoa on Sunday, studio anchor Frances Donovan will be joined by pundits and former Welsh internationals Mark Jones, Gareth Llewellyn and Mark Taylor. Bob Symonds, one of the best known voices in Welsh sport, will be providing commentary alongside former scrum half Andy Moore. Coverage begins at 04.15am on ITV1 Wales.
The action is part of ITV’s extensive coverage of the tournament which is featuring every match through to the Final on October 23.
